Tried out flickerscopes in the dark. 100 people an hour played with them (we tallied them). Even Danny Boyle had a go.
Trying out Flipbookit split-flap flickerscopes in situ at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. The sequences show people who walk and volunteer in the Park. Many thanks to Grounded Ecotherapy, the participants of Bow Beasties and of course Ken, Steven and Tess from Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. Great to be working with Lucy Williams from Lucid Design who sourced and adapted stands and fittings for this work-in-progress showing at very short notice and to Sheila Ghelani for her support and clarity on the day. 'Oh Music Where Art Thou' and 'Nimbus' navigation apps are in-ear. The sound moves from one ear to the other depending on the position of your head to the destination (for the Nimbus app read North and South).
I enjoyed moving the sound from ear to ear by turning on the spot. Interesting to find out that this doesn't fit my purposes, as it felt as though the sound was in my head rather than coming from the destination so the focus was inward and meditative rather than outward and alert to the location. Today's plan: try out two smartphone navigation apps that use sound: Oh Music,Where Art Thou? and Nimbus
If this route was a completed piece, what would the closure be? What would people find in the den? A hidden sound piece, a person?
